I had the same problem when I bought my SD2000. The dealer had to order the whole new assembly and install.

So I took the post out and it turns out that the lower bushing was too big. I took it apart and sanded it works great.

I usually try to fix things instead of just returning them to the dealer.

bigbuka1, What's involved in getting the ski pole out? simple job or does it require dealer involvement?

I have the answer to my question above. Replacement of the retractable ski pole is done by simply removing the screws from the collar, pulling out the old, dropping in the new and putting the screws back in place. A 10 minute job.
